The Long Beach Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America was chartered in 1919 to serve youth in the sprawling urban communities of Long Beach, Bellflower, Lakewood, Signal Hill, and Santa Catalina Island in Southern California. Today the programs of Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Venturing serve all boys beginning at age seven (or first grade) through 21, with co-ed programs for teens age 14 (and completed the eight grade) and above..

A message regarding the earthquake at approximately 11:45am
From Lee Martin, Scout Executive
All of our facilities, The Sea Base, The Scout Service Center, Camp Will J Reid and Camp Tahquitz are fine. All programs at those facilities, Aquatic Day Camp, Cub Day Camp and Camp Tahquitz resident Camp are open and continuing operations. There were only brief interruptions of program during the actual event, and all camps report that programs have continued.
